And the climax and ending are both very well done, creating a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. And improved is the gameplay, which goes for a more streamlined approach, able to challenge those that want a challenge but also notably easier for those that don't play console FPS titles, such as myself. Frankly I found this to be the single bridge too far in terms of an otherwise solid story. This isn't the case initially, but then suddenly the story jumps ahead a few months, where the heroes, an army of over 100 survivors, have actually managed to hide away on the enemy's homeworld. The story also flows with an increased nuance from before, with stronger characters than in past entries – if there's one really serious problem with the story, it would be that there is a lot less urgency than in the previous story, despite the chips being down the entire time. The new villain is more nuanced and less obviously evil, which actually makes him scarier in some ways as he clearly has a combination drive for power and a serious screw-loose in terms of sanity. However, in the end, it is arguably even better, capping the trilogy on its finest entry. I mention this to explain that this game, following up a game I was shocked as to how much I did like, starts off very much on the wrong foot.
